Everything Water Books for Kids
Splash pads are open, water tables are filled… summer is on it’s way! In the meantime, here are some of our favourite books with stories focused around water. Who’s ready for a swim?
Spencer and Vincent, the Jellyfish Brothers
by Tony Johnston
illustrated by Emily Dove
“Have you seen my brother?”
”Your brother who’s sweet, not smelly?”
A sweet and silly story about brotherly love and teamwork with some great information about jellyfish at the end.
Over and Under the Pond
by Kate Messner
Art by Christopher Silas Neal
A beautiful dual perspective story of the world above the pond and below the pond. A great index at the end of the book with information about all the many animals mentioned in the story.
Aquarium
by Cynthia Alonso
No words. No problem. The images in this story will allow the imagination to swim wildly. An adorable story of a girl and a little fish.
Smart About Sharks
by Owen Davey
Have you ever seen a more beautiful book about sharks? We can answer that for you… This book is so gorgeous yet extremely informative with infographics that are frame-worthy. Even the texture of the pages is noteworthy. You and your little one will be shark experts by the end of the book, no doubt. This is no baby shark… do do do.
A River
by Max Martin
What an adventure this book takes you on. A river ride through a vast range of different landscapes from the busy city, to rolling green hills, into the jungle. The illustrations are so good, I considered decorating my house with the art.
Indi Surfs
by Chris Gorman
This high contrast book - black, white, turquoise, and pink is so simple but powerful. Surfer girl dreams fill the pages. There is a strong underlying message to never give up. Can we head to the beach? Now?
Jubari Jumps
by Gaia Cornwall
We all get very excited for summer to arrive and that first chance to jump into that big outdoor pool. But often it takes courage to take that first jump. The illustrations are so warm and welcoming and not to mention beautifully detailed with a clever use of texture. A story every child (and parent) can relate to.
