Touch and Feel Books
There are so many touch and feel books, so it was a challenge to narrow down our list - but we think we’ve done a pretty good job! Up until one year, these were the only type of books my son would sit through. His little fingers would touch, poke, and pull all the new and exciting textures. You could see him learning and exploring through touch.
Here’s our list:
Never Feed a Yeti Spaghetti
by Believe Make
This is one of the silliest books.
“Never feed a yeti spaghetti…”
“Never feed a cheetah a fajita…”
Each animal has a different shaped mouth and teeth, getting bigger and bigger. Fun for the little fingers but make sure the animals don’t take a bite! Ouch!
If I Were a Monkey…
by Jellycat
Our favourite stuffies made into a book - what could be better? Pair this book with the matching stuffed animal and it makes a great baby gift! There are so many animals to choose from. The tail is the softest thing you’ll ever feel.
My Soft-and-Cuddly Animals
by Xavier Deneux
Touch and feel and high contrast black and white… this book will not leave your side for a long time. Trust us. It’s amazing for those newborn eyes and perfect for those little curious fingers.
ABC
by Xavier Deneux
Learn the ABCs by feeling your way through the many grooves and bumps. The illustrations are so simple and perfect.
In My Ocean
by Sara Gillingham
We love Sara Gillingham (if you didn’t realize already) and this whole series is so great! There is a little finger puppet in the middle of the book that the little one can’t take their hand off of. The shapes of the pages encourage page turning. These books are simple yet sweet.
Where’s the Zebra?
by Nosy Crow
Another series that are oh-so-good! The illustrations are simply adorable but that’s not our favourite part… Our favourite part = felt flaps!! These flaps are not bending or ripping. Tug… keep tugging - why aren’t every flap book made from felt? Genius!
That’s Not My Unicorn
by Fiona Watt
Basically there is a version of this book for every animal (and then some - That’s not my mermaid, my tractor!!) but the unicorn is probably our fave. We love the interaction and repetitive nature of this book. This series is celebrating their 20th year anniversary. If they’ve been around and going strong for this long… you know they are great!
Wiggles
by Claire Zucchelli-Romer
This book takes your little ones fingers on an adventure. The pages have different shaped grooves for fingers to follow and tap. Guaranteed wiggles and giggles from start to finish.
Pat the Bunny
by Dorothy Kunhardt
A timeless classic and one of the best selling books of all time - a must have in every child’s library. This book is a fave in our house and is currently being red (and touched and smelt and poked) daily.
