Months Three and Four Must Haves
For us, months three and four heavily revolved around play and sleep. Our little one moved into the crib in her own room (after spending the first couple months in a bassinet in our room), and the focus was on learning how to sleep through the night on her own. These are the products that got me and my babe through months three and four:
Bubs and Windy Playmat 🇨🇦
This was something I had picked out early on, loving the fact that it’s absolutely beautiful and also made in Canada! It’s incredibly plush, which is perfect for our hardwood floors, so we use it for playtime and tummy time, and it’s grown really well with Nova as she becomes a little more active and learns how to grab and kick the pieces to make them move and make noise.
Kyte Baby Sleep Sack
Once we were ready to transition from a swaddle, we immediately started using sleep sacks for an extra layer at night. There are a lot of different options out there, and I grabbed a few used ones from Once Upon a Child, but also really love the entire Kyte Baby line and the fact that they have different weights depending on the temperatures, are deliciously soft and come in a rainbow of fun colours. Plus, the zipper is key for easy emergency changes!
Sleep Sheep
This was gifted to us right around the time we moved Nova into a crib, and I’m so glad it was. I love that it hangs right on the crib, is cute (and neutral!) and has eight different sound settings. Our favourite is the rain sound, and we use it as a cue when we’re putting her down at night.
Bibs Pacifier
I had picked up a couple of these pacifiers before Nova was born after hearing great things (and let’s be honest — because of the simple, beautiful design!), and they’re the only ones we’ve used with her since. The colours are muted and come in some really lovely shades, with the ivory and dusty rose being our go-tos.
Lovevery Play Kit Subscription
I had my eyes on the Lovevery Brand for awhile, and though they originally weren’t available to ship to Canada, as soon as they were I not-so-subtly hinted to family members that if they were looking for a Christmas gift for Nova, this should be it. They ship out a box every other month, and it’s one of my absolute favourite things to receive in the mail — filled with “wonder-inducing playthings” that are geared towards the developmental stages your little one is going through during those two months. The items are carefully crafted with sustainably sourced wood and organic cotton fabrics, and we’ve loved each and every one.
ComoTomo Bottles
Breastfeeding was a struggle for me from day one due to supply issues and a variety of other complications, so we had to introduce formula and a bottle to Nova fairly early on. After doing lots of research and talking to friends, I stocked up on a few different options, and Comotomo was a clear winner. I really love the lightweight, soft silicone and the wide mouth (great for cleaning and mixing formula into!), and the fact that they come with a lid to cover the nipple, which is great when you’re on the go — and surprisingly not something that every design offers.
Solly Baby Wrap
With a babe that loves to cuddle and be held when she naps, the Solly wrap has been a lifesaver. Made of the softest fabric and easy to toss in a bag or grab quickly, it’s easy to get the hang of and you can really customize the exact fit to your body and your baby. I found it great around the house or studio when I needed to be hands-free but Nova would only be happy if she was being held, and also for letting her nap on my chest while I answered emails or tended to computer-related tasks.
Jellycat Mini Stuffed Animals
We also started to introduce stuffed animals during this time as we were sleep training, and the Jellycat ones are definitely a favourite — specifically the minis. They’re incredibly soft and cuddly, and they come in so many colours and animals that you’re sure to find one that you and your little one love.
rope storage Baskets
One thing I learned very quickly having a baby is that there are a lot of little things that you need access to, all the time. With a two-floor home and Nova’s room upstairs but most of our time being spent on the lower level, it became clear that I needed to have different stations set up with the daily necessities on both floors. In an effort to not just have piles everywhere, I opted for cute baskets instead, and these have been my go-to, in various sizes. I keep toys, cloths, diapers, extra clothes etc in these, and they’re perfect for that one extra level of organization.
